Springbrook National Park is a remarkable landscape featuring varied species of flora and fauna throughout more than 6000ha of pristine wilderness nestled behind the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia.
Taking the 45 minute drive up the mountain provides breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and back to the beautiful skyline of the Gold Coast. Keep your eyes on the road and you may catch a glimpse of some of the wildlife in the are including, Pademelons, Lace Monitors and Kookaburras. These views can be expanded upon via the lookouts at Purling Brook falls as well as Canyon lookout, Hardy’s lookout, Wunburra, Goomoolarha and the aptly named Best of All lookout.
Springbrook is renowned for its stunning waterfalls that can be located throughout the national park. These include Purling Brook Falls, Twin Falls, Goomoolarha, Rainbow Falls and Natural Bridge (also famous for Glow worms). During significant rain events the number of waterfalls in the area rise magnificently with short lived falls popping up throughout the forests making for a glorious visual display that disappears a few weeks later.
Bush walking in the area is an absolute delight with the national park offering a range of short walks (200m) to longer full day adventures (17km) and many others in between. Enjoy the variety sights, sounds and smells as the forest evolves around each bend to present new delights at every turn. View beautiful trees such as the Strangler Fig, the Brush Box and the Ribbon Gum whilst enjoying the sounds of birds such as the Whip bird, Cat bird or the Rainbow Lorikeet. With some luck you might view a glimpse of the Red-eyed Tree Frog that will capture your heart and imagination.
Springbrook National Park is part of the Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage estate which provides habitat for more than 200 rare and threatened species of plants and animals as well as examples of over half of all Australia’s recorded plants. World Heritage listed in 1986 it was expanded in 2007 to encompass areas that truly represent a forgotten era when the super continent Gondwana dominated the earth before splitting into Australia, Africa, Antarctica and South America.
